Colchicum ‘The Giant’
The Colchicum (Naked Lady) is unique in that it erupts into flower in September without any leaves. These then follow later when the flowers are long gone. This is where the name “naked lady” comes from – the fact that the flowers emerge from the ground long after the leaves have died back.
Colchicums prefer to be planted amongst trees and shrubs and allowed to naturalise. However, they will flower indoors near a window without soil or water and afterwards can be planted in the garden.
Although Colchicums are Autumn planting bulbs, they are also Autumn Flowering bulbs and bloom in September/October.
